The NHS wouldn’t run without all the foreign workers

I’m really sick of the fatuous statement continually bandied about, ‘The NHS wouldn’t run without all the foreign workers’! [ KoS Letters 12/03]

The NHS, any company, business, bank, etc., ‘wouldn’t run’ without the people in it, of whatever nationality, colour, sex, or religious persuasion, this argument is disingenuous, a non-starter!

What’s more relevant, is why are we importing more workers while we pay 1.6 million people to sit on their backsides, plus other benefits and our National Debt climbs to £2trillion? Why do we import thousands of skilled workers from countries where they are more urgently needed, while we close down technical departments in colleges? Why do we need cheap labour in a supposedly rich country, as they cut and cut again? Where is all the money going?

As the Tory/Labour cartel continue with their Liberal Left policies, education is dumbed down,
the appalling waste of billions continues and the gap between rich and poor becomes an unbridgeable
chasm, the Establishments dependency on imported labour will grow, but the cost of the unemployed
will pull us down!
Yours faithfully

Colin Bullen is right about the waste in the NHS, which is a national scandal, while the Green Party ’tilt at windmills’ using the NHS crisis to promote their pet subjects. [KM Letters 3/03]
The total cost of PFI in the NHS is £76billion! Stoke hospital cost £370 million to build, but with PFI will cost £2.7billion! A total waste of £2.33billion which would have paid for essential services and treatment deemed ‘too expensive’!
Mismanagement, waste and wrong priorites are far bigger problems than underfunding, some £5billion having been identified by experts as wasted money! Only recently an official report stated the NHS were paying £1billion more for drugs than necessary and that’s only the tip of the iceberg!
The enthusiasts for yet more money to be hurled into the NHS bottonless pit, have no sense of
financial responsibility, any understanding of economics, or any idea of the billions in waste!
It’s about time politicians stopped standing about like witnesses at an accident and blaming
everybody except themselves and got a grip on the NHS shambles, it could be so good with proper
management! The staff must be heartily sick of it all!
